Meet Ninja Ben, a brave young warrior that completed his training in the secret art of ninjutsu and now must take his final exam by proving his master that he is ready to receive his first mission. Before the master will assign him a mission he is sent alone into the “Dark wood” in order to survive one night against all the hidden dangers, while confronting other ninjas, samurais, night creatures, zombies, fire sets and many more.
Ninja Ben is constantly running so all things happen really fast giving you only very short time to take action, thus requiring you to have great reaction skills.
The game is build around five levels each bringing even more challenges to overcome once you advance further. In each level you are given a fixed number of 10 shurikens that you can use only against the Disappearing Ninja, Samurai warriors, Eagle sitting on the crypt, and against the Running guy with the helmet in the last level.
Shurikens can also kill Vampire bats and the Flying dragons but this is not necessary as you can escape them easily by using the crawling option once you push the DOWN key.
Remember that you can’t kill the zombie so your only option is to jump over him. Great care must be taken while jumping over obstacles because if you do it too fast or too late it will get you and the game is over, so you will need to start it again. Keep this in mind especially when hitting the lava area when the earthquake strikes in the 3rd level.
For escaping higher obstacles you are given the option to use a double jump / fly option by pressing the UP key twice, yet this also needs to mastered in order to discover the sweet spot of when to press for the second jump while in air.
While running and fighting your enemies keep an eye open for the available gems and try to collect them because once you reach 10 of them you will earn 1 more life.
If you are successful the game ends with Ninja Ben reaching the safety to his dojo where he will meet his master.
In the end I would like to say that I really enjoyed playing Ninja Ben running and I’m looking forward to discover any sequels.
