I know it’s been quite a while since I posted my last game review, so for today I have picked something really special. It’s a Pirate thematic game called “Pirate Run Away”.
As you probably observed, just by reading the title one should get a clear image of what’s coming because it perfectly describes the type of action that follows and also creates a clear image regarding the characters you will encounter once the game starts.
The action takes place on a remote island were a young sailor discovers a chest full of gold. Just as he collects the gold a middle age pirate appears threatening with a gun and asking for the treasure. The young sailor starts to run hoping to get safe to his ship and keep the gold. This short story is actually presented as a small animation right before the game starts,so as you probably anticipated – it’s your mission to help the young sailor escape the chasing pirate.
This runaway course will test your skills to the limit as lot’s of hidden obstacles and many enemies will try to block you.The game is split into five levels that one needs to complete and your only chance to get in one piece back to your ship is to run continuously, avoid all the traps, avoid falling of the cliffs and attack your enemies before they do.
Different enemies require different tactics so keep in mind that you need to choose wisely between jumping over, sliding under or launching an attack with your sword. Failing to apply the correct type of action will lead to “GAME OVER”. So keep an close eye on the energy bar and keep in mind that your character can only take 3 hits before you are out of business.
Falling off the running path or from the suspended platforms above the water will put and end to your escape course so this should be avoided by all means.
Here is a short classification of the enemies inside the game and how you should escape of defeat each of them.
- The chasing pirate will be harmless most of the time, he will be shouting out loud most of the time encouraging the others to attack you.So once you hear one of the specific pirate phrases such “Avast ya scallywags” or “There she blows”, or “Aye Matie” be prepared to face an incoming attack.
The chasing pirate will use his gun and try to shoot against you, two or three times in each level so be warned. You can prepare your self to avoid his fire right as you hear him shouting the “Arrrr” sound. This will betray him and thus giving you the change to jump over or slide under the bullet.
The pirate has two more phrases that he will use one is “Son of a biscuit eater” and he says these words very often as your characters manages to escape traps and defeat enemies. The other phrase that you never want to hear is “Dead man tell no tales” as he only says this when you are doomed.
The skeleton that hides inside a barrel. This type of enemy is very dangerous as he will try to take you by surprise every time. He appears randomly either in front of you, laying on suspended platform or facing down in higher levels as you will see. You can’t attack this enemy, you need to escape him by jumping or sliding under it.
3 . The walking skeleton. This enemy will run against you, so avoid direct collision with him, also don’t try to jump over it and such as it will not work. You need to use your sword and attack it.
- Flying Parrot. This is a flying type of enemy entering from the right upper part of the screen caring a bomb that he will drop near you. You can’t hit this enemy so avoid the bombs he drops by jumping over them.In higher levels you will also encounter a group of three Parrots flying together launching a direct attack against you by coming down and produce a collision. This time you can attack them with you sword or slide under the range.
- The walking crab. This is the type of enemy that you can easily avoid by jumping over it or by hitting it with your sword.
- The pirate zombies. There two enemies of this type and they are really fast and quite powerful. The only way to escape them is to defeat them with your sword but keep in mind that you must launch the attack first because otherwise they will get you.
And yet there are more challenges you need to overcome before getting safe, as the young sailor needs to also avoid deadly spikes, iron traps, rolling and boxing barrels and missing parts in the sand.
I really liked playing this game, the characters are truly unique and quite artistic, the colors are vivid and the nice graphics create a perfect mood for a great gaming experience and what’s truly a great thing is the fact that this game also has a presentation trailer that you can watch bellow.
