Today I choose to review a funny game called Sleeping Caveman that I really enjoyed playing again and again as it got me addicted quite fast. The title appeared back in 2013 just when the endless running type of games were starting to gain in popularity, so one can easy say that Sleeping Caveman was an early promoter of it’s genre.
As you start the game for the first time you are presented with a short animation showing a kid taking a walk in the nature and whistling a song. Somehow the kid misses a wood sign that has the written words of “Do not disturb – Caveman sleeping” and enters a small stone cave.
Suddenly we see the young boy running out terrified, followed closely by an angry caveman shouting out loud some words from a forgotten language and trying to smack the kid down with his wooden bat.
From now on a race against time starts as the kid needs to keep a safe distance between him and his opponent and the most important thing he needs to escape all caveman’s attacks by jumping at a precise time. Besides keeping an eye on the back to watch his chaser our young hero also needs to be prepared to overcome all the other obstacles that will appear in front of him such big rocks, prehistoric animals and all sort of other crazy things.
Now here comes the funny part, the game uses a nice upgrades system that gives the kid some super abilities that will help you along your run course. The super abilities are announced inside the game by a text that appears on the screen for a few seconds giving you time to prepare yourself to jump and grab it. This supper abilities are listed bellow:
- Kid’s get a plane to help him fly and avoid the caveman and also pick up bones more easy
- Kid get’s to ride on a giant duck that farts from time to time thus slowing down the chaser
- The young boy get’s an flying helicopter like cap that will raise him in the air
- The boy transforms into a giant for a few seconds kicking his chaser’s ass
- The boy get’s an ancient wooden bike that will give him a speed boos
Having any of these upgrades as active will also act as a protection against any collision with obstacles. In case of a collision you will lose the upgrade item but you will not die.
The upgrade items duration can be increased by spending the bones collected inside the featured game shop.
Being an endless runner the main goal of the game is to score as high as possible and submit your earned points online and compared it vs other players .
Regarding the graphics I always thought that a cartoon style approach is the key for a successful recipe when it comes to flash games so Sleeping caveman gets a well deserved place in our hall of fame for flash games reviews.
